From the catalan city of Alghero to the Vip coast of the Costa Smeralda, passing through the jewel of Corsica. The mistery of the innermost part of the Island with the important Unesco site of Su Nuraxi, until the precious city of Cagliari. A dive in the island to explore all its most interesting facets.
Day 1 (Saturday): ALGHERO
The meeting with the guide is fixed at 8 pm at the hall of the Hotel. You will meet the guide who will be at your disposal during all the tour. Dinner with the rest of the group in order to introduce to the other participants and to learn more about the tour you will experience. Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 2 (Sunday): ALGHERO – CASTELSARDO (150 Km)
Breakfast. During the morning you will visit the precious historic centre of Alghero. Walking the narrow streets of this lively, Catalan-influenced old town allows a combination of historic interest, beautiful landscapes and shopping. The visit will finish at 11 am. Free time for shopping or to visit independently the famous Neptune´s Cave. Lunch at the Hotel. In the afternoon you will be heading towards Castelsardo, a medieval, cliff-hanging village built on a mount on the sea. Enjoy the stunning views stretching over the whole of the Asinara gulf. The jewel of this town is the castle built by the Doria family, located on the top of the hill. Castelsardo is a very interesting place where to buy handicrafts. Return to Alghero, dinner and overnight stay in the Hotel.
Day 3 (Monday): BONIFACIO – COSTA SMERALDA (250 Km)
Breakfast. Departure from Alghero towards the jewel of Corsica. Once arrived in Santa Teresa, Bonifacio is reached by ferry (the channel crossing takes around 50 minutes). The day will be spent visiting the old town´s centre, tittering on the verge of incredibly high cliffs on the sea. From the harbour you will take the little train up to the characteristic Citadel with its ancient walls and the coloured shops, the vivid cafès, the belvedere which offers a breathtaking view over the famous Bocche di Bonifacio (seaway of Bonifacio). Free time for lunch. In the afternoon, the ferry will take you back to Santa Teresa, and you will end the afternoon visiting the world-famous Emerald Coast (Costa Smeralda), the luxurious holiday destination, boasting incredibly enchanting sceneries. Its pristine coves, flanked by granite rocks, luxurious villas and fabulous hotels, are home during the summer to the crème de la crème of the international Jet Set. Dinner and overnight stay in Olbia or in the surroundings.
Day 4 (Tuesday): ORGOSOLO – MAMOIADA – NUORO – ORISTANO (250 Km)
After breakfast, the day will be dedicated for visiting a few villages of the innermost part of Sardinia. The tour will start from Mamoiada, known for the traditional masks, displayed in an interesting museum. Among the most characteristic, those called ‘Mamuthones´ and ‘Issohadores´, that have become iconic symbols of the whole Sardinia. After Mamoiada, the tour continues with a stop in Orgosolo, rural village surrounded by the steep sides of mount ‘Supramonte´. Here, painted on the village´s walls, over one hundred murals can be seen, most of which dealing with social and political themes. Here you will experience a typical Sardinian Shepherds´ lunch. Before reaching Oristano you will make a quick visit to the city of Nuoro. Dinner and overnight stay in Oristano or in the surroundings.
Day 5 (Wednesday): THARROS–BARUMINI–MINES OF MONTEVECCHIO (195 Km)
After breakfast you will make a short walk in the historic center of Oristano. The morning continues with a visit to the ruins of the Punic-Roman town Tharros, now thought to be of extraordinary archaeological importance. The trip continues southbound to Villanovaforru. Lunch in the Hotel and afternoon spend visiting the famous nuragic complex of Barumini. With its imposing central tower and the many surrounding ruins, ‘Su Nuraxi´ is one of the most important archaeological sites of Sardinia admitted by UNESCO. A museum has recently been opened, where the findings of the complex area are displayed. The next stop is Montevecchio, an old miners´ settling, for a guided visit to a mine. Back to the hotel for the dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6 (Thursday): CAGLIARI (130 Km)
Breakfast. Whole day spent visiting the city of Cagliari. The trip starts from the colourful quarter called Marina, moving on to the bustling Via Roma, the pompous Town Hall, the refined palaces, the magnificent historic centre, to end up in the quarter called ‘Castello´ with its medieval walls. You will visit the important Archaeological Museum, with invaluable nuragic exhibits. Lunch in a restaurant. In the evening you will reach back the hotel for the dinner and the overnight stay.
Day 7 (Friday): S. CRISTINA SACRED WELL – BOSA – ALGHERO (270 Km)
After breakfast the day starts with the visit of the sacred well of Santa Cristina. You will be heading northbound towards Bosa. Bosa is situated on the north bank of the Temo river, the only navigable river on the island. It is a rather pleasant destination as it combines the cultural interest of its medieval centre´s monuments (notably, the imposing Malaspina Castle) and sandy beaches. Lunch in a restaurant. After lunch you will reach Alghero via the panoramic coastline road, and its unique cliffs dramatically dropping into the crystal-clear sea. With a bit of luck, you could come across the rare griffin, which populate this side of the Sardinian coastline. Arrival in Alghero and time at your disposal for the last shopping. Dinner and overnight stay in Alghero.
Day 8 (Saturday): ALGHERO
Breakfast. End of our services.
